New party post for Natham Viswanathan

June 16, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 03:02 pm IST - Chennai:

Former Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan, who was recently stripped of the post of AIADMK Dindigul district unit secretary following his defeat in the recent Assembly elections, was on Wednesday rehabilitated and appointed as one of the organisational secretaries and media spokesperson of the ruling party.

Lost in Athoor

Mr. Viswanathan, considered being among the few ministers who had earned Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s goodwill during 2011-16, was perceived to have fallen out of favour early this year.

He was fielded from Athoor instead of his home constituency, Natham, and lost to DMK strongman I. Periyasamy.

However, on Wednesday Ms. Jayalalithaa announced that Mr. Viswanathan along with Electricity Minister P. Thangamani and Local Administration Minister S. P. Velumani will serve as organisational secretaries of the party. Additionally, Mr. Viswanathan will be one of the spokespersons of the party.
