With the launch of hand-held mobile terminals for Speed Post services, customers in T.Nagar and Teynampet areas will now be able to get their deliveries in a faster manner.

R.Venkataraman, Senior Superintendent of Post Office (City Central Division), said the facility, which was launched on Saturday at T.Nagar head post office, would reduce documentation work for postmen.

They would carry instruments that would record digital signatures of the customers. The senders could soon track the status of the posts through Internet. Ten postmen who would be given the devices would be able to deliver 10,000 Speed Posts daily.

Sunita Trivedi, Chief General Manager, Business Development and Marketing Directorate, Department of Posts, New Delhi inaugurated the facility. An international and domestic parcel centre, which is the ninth such facility in the city, was also inaugurated at T.Nagar north post office.
