There is plenty of talk on nature conservation, but very little is done on the ground.

Renyta Moses, a class XI student, is a nature enthusiast and has launched a community programme and has roped in like-minded youth.

Her ‘We Conserve’ initiative has tied up with Paperman, a non-governmental organisation involved in waste recycling. She says her objective is to create awareness of waste management among people and enabling residents to segregate waste generated at homes in simple steps and create a pollution-free environment.

Issues such as air pollution, inconvenience caused by bursting firecrackers, littering of roads or care of stray animals are close to the heart of this student of APL Global School at Thoraipakkam.

The 15-year-old started the initiative with an awareness campaign in her VGP layout at the Corporation park in Uthandi with a presentation on garbage dumping. “Before launching it, I went on a door-to-door campaign in the layout to know the level of awareness and willingness of people to cooperate in waste recycling,” says Renyta, who wants to pursue Marine Biology.
