As many as 89,791 seats in 7,954 schools have been filled for the current academic year under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

The School Education Department has also announced that students who have secured admission under the Act in schools across the State can visit the institutions on Monday and collect their admission cards.

This year, the RTE process was taken partially online for the first time with parents being given the choice to fill out forms and apply online for admission.

A parent filling in the RTE form online could view the seats available and select the schools in their respective areas.

A confirmation SMS was also sent to the parents once the form was submitted online.

For persons who did not have access to computers, the School Education Department made provisions for them to approach the nearest e-seva centre of the District Education Office.

Over 79,000 applications were received through the online process alone, officials said.

Duplicate applications

As many as 67,825 applicants were eligible and over 12,000 applications were found to be duplicates as many students had applied for seats in more than one institution. Parents have been instructed to check www.tnmatricschools.com for details about the RTE admissions of their children.
