Members of self-help groups (SHG) across the State have exhibited a number of items to go with the mood of the festive season, such as kolu dolls, toys, wall hangings and embroidered fabric for sale at the ‘Navarathri Kankatchi’ which began here recently.

Organised by the regional office of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, the exhibition was inaugurated by vocalist M. Balamuralikrishna. Other items available include jewellery, bamboo and jute artefacts, dress material, candles and leather goods.

The organisers said that a numbers of contests have been planned for visitors and the winner would receive the title ‘Kolu Rani.’

R. Azhagamma, an SHG member from Kancheepuram, said that though they made different products throughout the year, the sale at such exhibitions was much better and encouraging. Porchelvi from Perunagar had exhibited mats made of wool and toys. U. Revathy and her group had made a whole range of eatables, including snacks, pickles and juices.

The exhibition is on at Sri Kumaran Anugraha Kalyana Mandapam, Arya Gowda Road, West Mambalam, till September 27 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
