Shiva Krish, a documentary filmmaker from Mylapore, has brought out a short film on schizophrenia.

The video, titled ‘Inward — Awareness about Schizophrenia’, can be viewed at “KYLOCRONEFILMS”, a channel on YouTube.

“When it comes to mental illness, there is either very little information or considerable misconception,” says Krish on why he came up with this topic.

The video features Dr. R Thara, director of Schizophrenia Research Foundation (SCARF) and Dr. T. R. Suresh, a psychiatrist and hypnotherapist, explaining schizophrenia from a medical perspective.

Ratna Chibber, president of Aasha Rehabilitation Centre, talks about the social aspects of the disorder.

It also has persons with schizophrenia sharing their experience living with the disorder and getting help.

“Most of them were enthusiastic to speak to us though they did not want their names to be put up in the video,” says Krish, adding that the video has received rave reviews.

“Even those from the medical fraternity lauded the effort as it covered all aspects of the disorder with accurate information,” says Krish. Krish had earlier done a documentary on demonetisation. “However, documentaries rarely get proper funding,” he says.
