MUV knocks down mother, son, in Chennai

A 35-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son died after they were hit by a speeding vehicle opposite Government Hospital for Thoracic Medicine, Tambaram Sanatorium on Tuesday morning.

B.Alamelu of Ariyalur District, reached Tambaram early on Tuesday morning by a government bus along with her son Veeramani and her uncle Marudamuthu. As the boy suffered from incessant coughing and local hospitals did not solve his problem, Alamelu brought him to GHTM.

They were crossing the road when the vehicle, a Tata Sumo bearing a Meenambakam registration number hit them. The driver of the vehicle, P. Kannan (22) jumped the signal. While Veeramani died on the spot, Alamelu succumbed to injuries at a hospital.

Traffic police are investigating. The accident took place around 7 a.m.
