The city police have cracked the murder for gain of a 60-year-old man whose decomposed body was found at his residence on October 24, 2012.

The victim’s friend was detained on Monday in connection with the murder.

The victim, T. Ezhumalai, a former automobile engine parts businessman, lived alone in a first floor house in Kannigapuram 7 Street, Velachery, after being separated from two wives. He had rented out portions of the building to shops and other tenants.

On the evening of October 24, Ezhumalai’s decomposed body bearing injuries on the head and with a cable around his neck was discovered by his son-in-law Kabali, a goldsmith, when he came to the house after Ezhumalai failed to respond to phone calls. Gold jewellery, cash and some photo albums were missing from the house.

Guindy police registered a case of murder. An initial probe revealed that Sivakumar (33), a native, was residing with the victim till the time of his death. The suspect had arranged tours for the victim and had gone to Andaman and Nicobar Islands as part of one.

Following a manhunt for over two months, the investigations teams tracked down Sivakumar in Hosur on Monday and brought him to Chennai. Investigators are questioning him further. Gold jewellery weighing 25 sovereigns and Rs. 1.10 lakh robbed from Ezhumalai’s house is suspected to be in Sivakumar’s possession, police sources said.
