The murder case of psychologist Emma Gonsalvez, which was being investigated by the Egmore police, has now been transferred to the Crime Branch CID.

A leading psychologist, Ms. Gonsalvez (82) was murdered on the night of June 13 at her seventh floor flat in an apartment complex on Dr. Cherian Crescent Road in Egmore. The victim’s relatives attempted to perform the last rites the following day after declaring it a natural death. But specific information received by the police raised the suspicion of a murder for gain. A post-mortem examination later established the death as homicide.

Following investigations, Ms. Gonsalvez’s nephew, Immanuel (46), was arrested on July 3 on charges of illegally altering her will. But a further probe couldn’t ascertain the identity of the murderer, who also stole some jewellery and electronic items from the flat.
