Municipality cracks down on tax defaulters

March 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

Pammal municipal authorities recently launched a crackdown on industrial units that have not paid their dues to the local body for several years.

The officials threatened to seize machinery of defaulters. Tax arrears run up to more than Rs. 2.97 crore. Municipal officials said they issued demand notices, last December, to all those who failed to pay tax dues for 2013-14.

Subsequently some of them agreed to pay up. Following the crackdown, several industrial unit owners have agreed to settle the dues at the earliest. The municipal authorities are now planning to initiate similar action against individual property tax evaders.
