MTC staff, law students clash over tickets

December 06, 2012 01:30 am | Updated 09:34 am IST - CHENNAI:

A group of law students clashed with members of MTC staff on Pallavan Salai on Wednesday afternoon.

Police sources said the students boarded MTC bus route number 21 at a stop near the New Secretariat building.

The students refused to buy tickets for the journey, following which they had an argument with Sekar, the conductor of the bus. Jerald, the driver of the vehicle intervened but the students assaulted the two men on the bus.

They called and alerted some others who assembled outside the Pallavan House here. When the bus reached the place, a clash ensued between the two groups. A police team rushed to the spot soon after and separated the groups.

Both the students and the MTC staff have lodged police complaints and an investigation is under way, sources said.
