MTC bus rams Metro Rail pillar

Traffic on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai near Ashok Pillar junction was affected in the morning after a Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus rammed a concrete pillar of the Chennai Metro Rail on Monday.

A senior police officer said that bus number S510 originating from Padappai and proceeding towards CMBT ran into the pillar after the driver Sarath lost control.

The passengers were rescued and more than 15 of them were admitted to the ESI hospital nearby.

Multiple collision

More than 10 passengers were injured in a multiple collision involving a State Transport Corporation bus, private omni bus and an omni van, near Perungalathur on the outskirts of the city on Monday morning. The accident caused a traffic jam on GST Road Perungalathur and Vandalur.

A police officer from the Chromepet Traffic Investigation Wing said the private omni bus bound for Koyambedu hit an omni van which in turn hit the State Transport Corporation bus.

In the collision, 12 passengers of the omni van and the government bus were injured. Four persons who suffered severe injuries were taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for treatment. The omni bus driver Vimal Kumar was arrested.

The passengers were rescued and more than 15 of them were admitted to the ESI hospital
