A 41-year-old man died on the spot and his wife was critically injured after the motorcycle they were on was hit by an MTC bus on Mudichur Road, Tambaram on Tuesday morning.

The couple, Joseph Paul of Lakshmi Nagar, West Tambaram and his wife Anuradha, were on their way to work when the accident took place.

Paul, who was riding the motorcycle, worked at a private company in Pallavaram. He was to drop his wife at Tambaram Sanatorium, where she worked at another company.

Around 8 a.m., the MTC bus (M55 from Mannivakkam to Tambaram) hit the motorcycle.

While Paul died on the spot, Anuradha is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chromepet. The bus driver, 53-year-old Arumugam, was arrested by St. Thomas Mount traffic police.

Just last week, two MTC buses collided in Meenambakkam, resulting in minor injuries to 10 passengers.
