Motorcyclist rammed by lorry on ECR dies

A software engineer died after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a lorry carrying a consignment of coconuts on East Coast Road on Sunday.

Adyar Traffic Investigation wing police said Karthik (24) of Devi Nagar 6{+t}{+h}Street in Injambakkam, was returning home from his office in Taramani. He was travelling between Kottivakkam and Palavakkam when the approaching lorry that was on the same lane hit him. He died instantly, police said.

Police said that as road repair work was being carried out on ECR between Kottivakkam and Palavakkam, one side of the road was blocked and vehicles were allowed on the opposite lane. Police said they are searching for the lorry driver, who abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot.
