More traffic diversions ahead of Republic Day

The Chennai city traffic police have announced traffic diversions on Kamarajar Salai in view of Republic Day celebrations and the rehearsals on January 18, 22 and 24.

According to a press release, the stretch of Kamarajar Salai from the Lighthouse up to the War Memorial will be closed for all vehicular traffic from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Vehicles from Adyar proceeding towards Broadway on Kamarajar Salai will be diverted at Greenways Point towards R.K. Mutt Road, V.K. Iyer Road, Devanathan Street, St. Mary’s Road, R.K. Mutt Road, Luz Junction, Luz Church Road, Karpagambal Nagar, Sivasamy Salai, Royapettah High Road, Royapettah Clock Tower, Whites Road, Smith Road, Anna Salai to reach Broadway.

Other vehicles, including MTC buses, from Adyar proceeding towards Broadway on Kamarajar Salai will be diverted at the Santhome High Road-Kutchery Road Junction towards Kutchery Road. The vehicles will have to take the route through Kutchery Road, Luz Junction, Luz Church Road, Karpagambal Nagar, Sivasamy Salai, Royapettah High Road, Royapettah Clock Tower, Whites Road, Smith Road, Anna Salai to reach Broadway.

MTC buses (route no. 27D) on Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai proceeding towards Gandhi statue will be diverted at the Dr. RK Salai-V.M. Street Junction towards V.M. Street and will use Royapettah High Road, Luz Junction, R.K. Mutt Road, Mandavelli Junction, South Canal Bank Road and Srinivasapuram to reach Foreshore Estate.

MTC bus route no. 21G from Luz Junction proceeding towards Gandhi statue will be diverted at the Royapettah High Road flyover. It will use Royapettah High Road, Clock Tower, Whites Road, Smith Road and Anna Salai to reach Broadway.

MTC bus route no. 12G and 45B coming from Luz Junction and proceeding towards Gandhi Statue will also be diverted at the Royapettah High Road flyover. They will use Royapettah High Road, Roypettah Clock Tower, Whites Road, Smith Road, Anna Salai and Wallajah Road to reach Anna Square.

No vehicle will be allowed beyond the Dr. RK Salai-Dr. Natesan Road Junction to proceed towards Gandhi Statue. These vehicles will be diverted towards Dr. Natesan Road. Vehicles proceeding towards Kamarajar Salai will also not be allowed beyond the Dr. Natesan Road-Avvai Shanmugam Salai Junction and will be diverted towards the Ice House Junction.

No vehicle will be allowed beyond Dr. Besant Road-Dr. Kamarajar Salai Junction towards Kamarajar Salai and They will be diverted at the Dr. Besant Road Roundabout towards Ice House Junction.

Similarly, vehicles will not be allowed beyond the Bharathi Salai-Bells Road Junction towards Kamarajar Salai and will be diverted towards Bells Road.

Vehicles will also not be allowed beyond the Wallajah Road-Bells Road Junction (except for MTC buses) towards Kamarajar Salai. These vehicles will be diverted towards Bells Road. MTC Buses will be allowed up to the Canal Bank Road Junction.

The Anna Square bus terminus will be temporarily shifted to Wallajah Road near the Government Guest House. Vehicles coming from Parry’s Corner and proceeding towards Adyar will be diverted at the RBI subway (north) towards Raja Annamalai Mandram. These vehicles will go through Muthusamy Point, Wallajah Point, Anna Salai, General Patters Road, Whites Road, Anna Salai, Cathedral Road, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Dr. Natesan Road, Karaneeswarar Pakoda Street and Santhome High Road in order to reach Adyar.

No vehicle will be allowed from Wallajah Point towards War Memorial.
