Light showers greeted some areas in the city, including Velachery and Maduravoyal, on Tuesday morning. And by night, it had changed to thundershowers.

During the day, though an overcast sky due to the low pressure area over west-central Bay of Bengal and coastal Andhra Pradesh ensured pleasant weather, Chennai and its neighbourhood experienced only a trace of rainfall. Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 30.5 degree Celsius and 30.7 degree Celsius, nearly four degrees below average.

The meteorological department has forecast the city and its fringes will experience spells of rain or thundershowers till Thursday.
