April 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:41 am IST - CHENNAI:

More post offices in Chennai will offer space for parking of ambulances soon.

The Department of Posts is tying up with more private and government hospitals to allow parking of the emergency vehicles on its premises.

At present, the post offices in St. Thomas Mount, Anna Nagar, Ambattur and Tambaram allow ambulances to park on their premises.

Soon, 18 more places, including head post offices, will provide space to ambulances for a rent.

Mervin Alexander, postmaster general (Chennai city region), said, at present, parking is a major issue for ambulances that have to rush to emergencies.

Besides parking space, post offices will also allow ambulance staff to use their basic amenities. This service will help ambulances reach their destinations faster.
