Though winter is more than a week away, nights have gone nippy in the city for the past two days.

Monday’s night temperature dipped to 19.4 degree Celsius in Chennai (Nungambakkam) and 18 degree Celsius in the southern suburbs (Meenambakkam), the lowest recorded in two years. On December 27, 2011, the minimum temperature dipped to 19 degree Celsius in Nungambakkam and 17.8 degree Celsius in Meenambakkam. The gradual dip in temperature was felt after cloud cover lifted from over the city in the past three days. The steady dip in the minimum temperature since Saturday below the month’s average of 21.9 degree Celsius saw many residents pulling out their warm clothing a bit in advance. Many joggers said that they started a bit late for their walk or jog to avoid the chill.
