“It is a dream come true for me. He was kind and generous’’

The high-security convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi came to a stop minutes after rolling out of the convocation auditorium on the SRM University campus here on Sunday.

Even as curious onlookers, including senior police officials, wondered why the VVIP convoy had halted, Mr. Modi had actually spared time to listen to a poem penned by a student.

Prapatti Singh, a final-year student of the university, wrote a poem on leadership qualities and wanted to present it to Mr. Modi as she thought he had most of them.

Despite the scorching sun, he gave a patient hearing as Ms. Singh read out the full poem in Hindi. Impressed by the creative thoughts of the girl, he asked her to send him the content.

“I sent the poem by email and got an acknowledgement from his secretary. It is a dream come true for me. He was kind and generous…it was so motivating. Mr. Modi told me that he was doing his best for the development of the youth and the nation,” Ms. Singh told The Hindu.

The poem has no direct reference to Mr. Modi but elaborates the good qualities people expect from a leader. “I have seen him on the TV many times. He has so many plans for the growth of India. Though I made a request to his Personal Assistant that I would like to dedicate the poem to Mr. Modi, I never thought the convoy would stop for me,” a visibly elated Ms. Singh said.

Good gesture on the part of Modi.

This is the kind of positive news one should expect from a national
daily...Youngsters of India today are not poisoned by either casteism
or Communism hence are able to think more clearly than older
generation. The older generation have preconceived notions due to
baggage of partiton that will not go away...their love or hate
relationship with Modi or Rajiv will not change irrespective of what
Supreme Court says.

I commend this young, bold and patriotic lady for her efforts for a
better India.

Hail fanatic India!
Where our Indian society is going?
If majority people have become supporters of ill or evil cause doesn't mean that evil became
It just indicates that India is going retrograde!
High standard institutions - who were path setters till now , need not join the mediocre, just
for being in the main stream.

I have read comments writted in this post. I am not really sure if its a overhyped article, but I really appreciate the way Modi is approaching people of Bharat. Bharath is at a stage where Politicians need to reach people of India where Youth (15-35) are going to play very important role in our future. Money politics, vote bank politics is not going to work in coming furture. It may work for 2014 elections, but I am sure for the next elections, its going to be completely different. Politicians needs to reach people of India to talk to them, address their issues.

What is wrong in publishing the feeling of an ordinary man about
Mr. Modi who is after all a Prime Ministerial candidate of the
current opposition party BJP.

To those who criticised here about Ms. Singh's action and/or about TH publishing it, there is none who dared to do so from the millions around, a human with right effort is appreciable, irrespective the person's party-stand. And The Hindu did the right thing, it is at high esteem I feel that what TH did. Hats off TH, well done.

at least there is someone giving attention to youth may nit be an
acclaimed icon of the class he listened to...had it been rahul gandhi
..he would have taken few min to roll up his sleev and then adjusting
mike to say ultimatly..bhaiya women empowerment ho gaya..and then would
have called for content to ultimately understand the poem.

I think media should stop projecting people in extremes (Good or bad). I believe Modi, Kejriwal and few others all have good interest of nation at their hearts, It is just who is better equiped to deliver it. Rest all are political propagandas.
