In the academic year of 2015-16, Madras Medical College, one of the oldest educational institutions in the city, will once again admit 250 students for MBBS.
According to a press release, until 2012, only 165 students were admitted every year to the college.
In 2013, the college obtained permission from the Medical Council of India (MCI) to admit 250 students. In 2014, too, 250 students were admitted.
To renew permission for the 2015-16 academic year, MCI had sent a team to inspect the college last October.
A report was then submitted, and following the executive committee meeting of the MCI held in November, the college has been given permission to admit 250 students in 2015-16, the release said.
“We are extremely happy that we have been granted permission for the third year to admit 250 students. We are hoping that the next two inspections also go well,” said dean R. Vimala.
