A man who was reported missing a couple of years ago was traced in a remote house at Kottayam in Kerala. When plainclothesmen of the Crime Branch CID walked into his house early this week, Soundaraj of Karungal in Kanyakumari district, who went missing after returning from Saudi Arabia in 2013, said he was frustrated over misunderstandings in the family and left home.
Agency sources said Soundaraj, a construction worker, went to Saudi Arabia for work in 2007. Four years later, he returned to India and got married. After a month, he went back to the Gulf country. His wife went to her parents place following a quarrel with her in-laws. In 2013, when Soundaraj came back again, he learnt about the misunderstanding his wife had with parents. After his attempts to bring about harmony in the family failed, he walked out of the house and never came back. When there was no breakthrough in the investigation of the local police, Soundaraj’s wife moved a Habeas Corpus petition in the Madras High Court bench in Madurai. The court transferred the case to the CB-CID for investigation in early this month. Following a tip-off that Soundaraj was seen in Kottayam, special teams went there and visited many constructions sites.
“Since he had no mobile phone and was not in touch with any of his family members or relatives, there was no clue of his location. First, we made sure that he did not leave the country. Then came this input that he was seen in Kottayam,” a CB-CID official said.
