The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department of the State on Tuesday seized 511 kg of spoilt and misbranded food products from a popular retail outlet, Reliance Fresh, in Royapuram. The action followed a complaint made by a customer of the outlet to food safety officials.

The seized products include 371 kg of dal, 40 kg vegetables and fruits and 100 kg of biscuits.

“We conducted raids on Reliance Fresh outlet in Royapuram on Tuesday. Samples have been sent for testing. People should report cases of misbranded items to food safety department. The complaints can be emailed to fssache@gmail.com,” said S. Lakshmi Narayanan, designated officer, Food Safety and Drug Administration, Chennai District.

“People should be careful in purchasing products sold at a discount in such outlets,” he added.
