The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department of the State on Tuesday seized 511 kg of spoilt and misbranded food products from a popular retail outlet, Reliance Fresh, in Royapuram. The action followed a complaint made by a customer of the outlet to food safety officials.
The seized products include 371 kg of dal, 40 kg vegetables and fruits and 100 kg of biscuits.
“We conducted raids on Reliance Fresh outlet in Royapuram on Tuesday. Samples have been sent for testing. People should report cases of misbranded items to food safety department. The complaints can be emailed to fssache@gmail.com,” said S. Lakshmi Narayanan, designated officer, Food Safety and Drug Administration, Chennai District.
“People should be careful in purchasing products sold at a discount in such outlets,” he added.

I tried sending an email to the given email ID and it didnt work. Could
the author update with the real email ID?
Action taken by Food Safety team is welcome.
Preventing such recurrences by educating Food business operators is the
need of the hour.Involvement of various stakeholders should be
recognised by FSSAI.
If Reliance Fresh outlet itself is like this , think of other licensed
outlets who do not follow Good hygiene practices, pest control etc.
"The complaints can be emailed to fssache@gmail.com,” said S. Lakshmi
Narayanan, designated officer, Food Safety and Drug Administration,
Chennai District." WHEN ON EARTH are people and organisations in India
going to learn to have email addresses with domain-names that reflect
the authenticity of an email address???
Except for the words of the designated officer, there is no way of
being sure that the email address "fssache@gmail.com" really belongs
to the Food Safety and Drug Administration, Chennai District; as long
as a particular email ID has not yet been taken, ANYONE can create an
email address at hotmail, or yahoo or gmail, with any username that
he/she wants.
