The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has large-scale support of the minorities. The meeting of party's Minority Morcha, slated for February 24, in Chennai will prove that the party is not against any religion or caste, its State president Pon Radhakrishnan said on Saturday.

In Tamil Nadu, where Hindus account for 85 per cent of the population, the BJP's vote share had witnessed a rise from just 2.5 to 20 per cent in the last few years, and there was a corresponding increase in the support from the minorities, Mr. Radhakrishnan told mediapersons.

There was no need for the Congress or other parties to cast aspersions on the support of the minorities for the BJP.

The party, he said, had the backing of those supportive of Mahatma Gandhi's ideal for Hindu-Muslim unity.

The BJP and its alliance partners in Tamil Nadu were certain to perform well in the parliamentary elections, as farmers and the working class held the party's Prime Minister candidate Narendra Modi in high esteem.

Projections indicate that over 50 per cent of the people in Tamil Nadu wanted Mr. Modi to be the Prime Minister, Mr. Pon Radhakrishnan said.
