The trial run of the second desalination plant for the city coming up along East Coast Road at Nemmeli has started and the plant is almost ready to be commissioned.

Reviewing the work at the plant that has a capacity to treat 100 million litres of sea water a day, minister for municipal administration and rural development K.P. Munusami said nearly 98 per cent of the work has been completed and residents may soon be supplied with water from there.

Work to lay pipeline for a distance of 64.3 km from the plant to distribute water to southern parts of the city has also been completed. He instructed officials to expedite work to flush the underground sumps and the main pipeline to facilitate drinking water supply.
