The train, which had arrived at the port, was taken to Koyambedu

The city’s first Metro Rail train was transported from Chennai Port to Koyembedu, and reached early on Thursday morning.

The train, comprising four cars, came from Port of Santos, Brazil and arrived in Chennai on May 31.

The train left the port around 12.30 a.m. on Thursday, and took about an hour to reach the Koyembedu depot. The train was moved in a modular hydraulic axle, said an official of Namakkal Transport Carrier Logistics, the firm that bagged the contract to ship the train.

“We took permission from the city traffic police to transport the vehicle and ensured that there was no disturbance caused on the roads. The vehicle that transported the train is about 100-ft. long,” said an official.

Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited said the train would be inspected next week, and a testing process will be carried out over the next four months.
