Seven months after the first train manufactured for Chennai Metro Rail in Sao Paulo, Brazil, hit the city’s Port, it went through the much-awaited trial run on the elevated track from the Koyambedu depot on Thursday.
Around 9 a.m. the train sloped upwards on the ramp from the test-track in the depot and entered the elevated corridor. The train continued making rounds in this path till late afternoon.
The trial run covered less then two km and did not cross the Koyambedu Metro station. It will go through this exercise for another 15 days after which the train will be tested extensively from Koyambedu till Ashok Nagar, officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) said.
Although the stations remain incomplete, the officials decided to carry out the test run as the overhead electrical lines were supplied power from the receiving substation in the depot, he added. When the power supply is extended to other stations, by mid-February, the trial run will be done from Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar.
