Traffic flow on the busy Jawaharlal Nehru Road was affected for a couple of hours on Tuesday morning when a vehicle carrying heavy pile driving equipment, belonging to Metro Rail Ltd., tilted towards the road near Koyambedu.
A Metro Rail spokesperson said that the incident, which happened at 10.20 a.m., was due to loose earth at one spot which resulted in one of the vehicle's tyres sinking into the ground.
“It happened when the vehicle was being moved to a new location five to 10 metres away,” he said.
When cranes were brought to the site for restoring the vehicle back to balance, the carriageway got blocked for about an hour during rush hour, said M. Ravi, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
Traffic diversion
Heavy vehicles and MTC buses were diverted through other roads for some time, he added.
One lane was cleared for traffic flow after 11.30 a.m. by which time the pile driving equipment was restored to position.
Free flow of traffic was restored by noon, the Metro Rail spokesperson said.
It took one more hour for the traffic flow to return to normality.
