Mentally challenged man electrocuted

A man who allegedly tried to escape from a hospital for the mentally ill in Otteri here was electrocuted on Thursday.

According to police sources, Varadarajan (45) of Kotakuppam in Villuppuram district, a construction worker, was admitted to the private hospital on Subbarayan Main Street after he showed symptoms of mental illness a couple of days ago.

On Tuesday morning, he tried to escape through the window grill in the bathroom and got struck. While trying to wriggle free, the victim came in contact with a live wire and died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

The Secretariat Colony police are investigating. A case under Section 174 (unnatural death) of Cr.Pc has been registered.
