Men voters outnumbered women in 15 of the 16 constituencies in Chennai district in the Assembly election held on Wednesday. The exception was Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar with 353 more women voters than the 70,457 men who cast their vote in the constituency.
According to the data released by the District Election Office on Thursday, the percentage of votes polled was 68.02 in Chennai. The highest percentage of 72.4 was in Dr.Radhakrishnan Nagar. Saidapet and Royapuram were the other constituencies where the voter turnout crossed the 70 per cent mark.
The lowest percentage was in Harbour with a turnout of 63.65 per cent. Over 21.57 lakh voters in the city cast their vote on Wednesday. The city has over 31.71 lakh voters on the rolls. Of the 367 transgenders in the 16 constituencies, just 22 cast their vote.
The highest percentage of voters among transgenders was recorded in Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni.
The total number of female voters who cast their votes in the city is 10.53 lakh. Over 11.04 lakh male voters participated in the polls in the 16 constituencies. No polling station in the 16 constituencies of the city is likely to have a re-poll. The election observers have completed the scrutiny of total votes polled in all the polling booths to find out the stations where a deviation of 15 percentage points from the average turnout is observed.
