Storm water drains have been constructed along 34.18 km so far under the project by the civic body at a cost of Rs.29.49 crore. A total of 532.54 km of drains are being proposed to be constructed by the Corporation. The Public Works Department would undertake the rest of the Rs.1,448 crore project.
The Chennai Corporation has asked the contractors of the stormwater drain project to begin the project that has been suspended for a few weeks on account of the rains.
Special flying squads
A special flying squad to monitor the work would be constituted, said Mr. Subramanian. Fortnightly review of the progress of the work will be conducted by the Corporation Commissioner to ensure speedy completion of the project, he added.
The Mayor asked the contractors to place boards displaying details of the work at all locations where construction was under way.
