The Chennai city traffic police will be holding weekly traffic interaction meetings in the city from November 25.
The meetings will be conducted by traffic inspectors under the supervision of the concerned assistant commissioners (traffic) of the respective localities on every Saturday and Sunday.
“We will be inviting members of residents’ welfare associations, auto drivers’ associations, traders’ associations as well as voluntary organisations,” said Karuna Sagar, additional commissioner of police (traffic).
He said that during the course of these meetings, various feedbacks and suggestions from the public on traffic issues would be collected and minor traffic-related problems would also be sorted out.
The grievances expressed by the public will be redressed by the traffic police in association with other government bodies including the Chennai Corporation, highways department and telecom department. A review will also be conducted at regular intervals on the effectiveness of such meetings.
“Residents are not familiar with the traffic police of their respective locality. Such meetings will make them familiar. People have ideas related to traffic but they are unable to express it directly to us. Such forums will be ideal for that. The complaints and suggestions will be compiled after the meetings and acted upon,” said Mr. Karuna Sagar.
