Mayor returns to Ripon Buildings

November 25, 2014 02:50 am | Updated November 16, 2021 04:44 pm IST - CHENNAI:

On Monday, after a few days of uncertainty caused by rumours of his resignation, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy returned to Ripon Buildings.

The Mayor received petitions from a number of residents who visited Ripon Buildings. He also met the Corporation Commissioner, councillors and a few party members, to discuss civic works. A number of standing committee members and councillors also called on him.

Most Corporation officials, who have been keeping their fingers crossed for the past few days, preferred to remain tight-lipped. A few councillors, however, said they wanted officials to trace the source of the rumour pertaining to the mayoral post. Some of the councillors claimed that the civic body is likely to initiate stringent measures against the officials responsible for shoddy civic development works.

A Corporation official said many officials were anxious about possible action against them for failure to implement works on time. “The rumour has brought about a change in the mindset of officials and councillors. They are likely to work harder,” said an official.
