The mastermind behind a fake currency circulation racket has been arrested from Katikar district in Bihar and brought here for questioning, police said.
Samsul Haque was arrested at Sandhaghat by Tamil Nadu police recently, with assistance of their Bihar counterparts.
He was brought to Chennai on a transit warrant issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Katikar District, a CB-CID press release said.
The team was despatched there after the arrest and questioning of Afzar Ali (26) and Babu Mandle (from Bihar and West Bengal) from whom fake currency with a face value of Rs 1,000, cellphones and Rs 39,000 worth genuine notes obtained through circulation of fake notes by Haque was seized, it said The investigation, transferred to CB-CID, revealed that Afzar after obtaining the money, deposited it in Samsul’s account at Sonali Bazaar in Katikar District, Bihar.
Investigation revealed that around Rs 18 lakh was deposited in his account from Delhi, Mubai, Jammu Kasmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Chennai and also from other places by people sent by the accused and his associates from their native places to various states with fake currencies for circulation.
