Dhyan Bohra of Kilpauk had to wait for over an hour after the CBSE class X results for the Chennai region was declared on Thursday.

“The computer system was slow and I was quite anxious. But, I am glad about my grades,” said Dhyan Bohra who wants to take up engineering as a career.  He was one among the 33,485 students who appeared for class X exams in Tamil Nadu earlier this year.

Of the total number of students, 33,405 students have passed, making the pass percentage to 99.76 per cent. Besides those of 38 Kendriya Vidyalaya, students from 392 private schools appeared for the CBSE exams. Students are given grades on the scale of A1 to E2 instead of marks.

School authorities feel that the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system has helped the students score better. However, several schools struggled to consolidate grades as the system was slow.

While Geetha Nandakumar, vice-principal of Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram, said it had supported children to relax and score well, Minoo Agarwal, principal of DAV Public School, Velachery, said students have gained better confidence after the CCE system, which aims at holistic assessment.

However, some of them may find it difficult to cope in class XI as the syllabus and learning style is different.

In a press meet here on Thursday, K.Srinivasan, assistant secretary, CBSE, Chennai region, said grade sheets will be given in 15 days. Candidates who want to apply for Improvement of Performance may do it till June 22 and the forms will be accepted with a fine till June 30.
