Man kills brother

April 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

A long-standing property dispute between two brothers resulted in the death of the younger sibling in Kilpauk on Saturday.

R. Venkatarathinam (31), an office assistant at the zonal office of Chennai Corporation in Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar, was a resident of Pullapuram 3{+r}{+d}Street in Kilpauk, while the elder brother, 43-year-old R. Venkateshwaralu (43), a car driver and mechanic, lived in Perambur.

The brothers had a dispute over the ownership of their house ever since their father Ramaiah passed away a few years ago.

On Friday night, Venkateshwaralu went to his brother’s house in Kilpauk, informing him that he had work nearby early in the morning.

Early on Saturday, Venkateshwaralu picked up the grinding stone from the kitchen and smashed Venkatarathinam’s head. He then fled the spot, an investigating policeman said.

The murder came to light an hour later when neighbours came in search of Venkatarathinam.

They alerted the police who sent the body for post-mortem to the Government Kilpauk Hospital.

Venkateshwaralu was subsequently arrested, a police officer said.
