Man held for molesting student

The police arrested a 37-year-old teacher who is suspected to have misbehaved with a girl student at his tuition centre.

According to the police, the girl studies in a private school at Adambakkam. A resident of Maduvankarai in Guindy, she went to a tuition centre run by Kannan in the same locality. A business management graduate with a diploma in computer science, Kannan told the police he taught all subjects at his institute.

On November 12, the girl reportedly came home crying after tuition. She allegedly told her parents that Kannan approached her with a glass of water after which she lost consciousness. Suspecting that the teacher could have misbehaved with the girl, her father submitted a petition to the city police commissioner.

The commissioner forwarded the complaint to the Guindy police for further investigation. The police summoned Kannan for interrogation during which he denied any untoward incident had happened. He was arrested and remanded.
