The city police arrested S. Arun Kumar, 41, an event manager at a star hotel, for sending a bomb threat to the hotel on Sunday. Hotel staff found an unsigned letter in a notebook near the reception counter. It said bombs planted inside the building would go off around Sunday noon.

The letter caused panic as Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was scheduled to attend an event around the same time at the hotel.

A complaint was filed with the Teynampet police, who conducted a search but found no bomb.

The police recovered CCTV footage from the hotel in which Arun was found dropping the letter. Police officers said Arun ended up commiting the act as he was unhappy at work.
