A Chennai Corporation employee was found dead inside a ward office in Teynampet on Thursday morning.

The police said he had committed suicide by hanging as he was depressed over family issues.

G. Ashok Kumar (28), a resident of Varadarajapuram in Teynampet, was a staff member attached to the road lying unit of the Corporation.

On Thursday, his colleagues found Kumar hanging on a towel from an iron rod outside a toilet.

Corporation staff alerted the police who arrived and recovered the body following preliminary investigations. The body was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police said Kumar was depressed over his marriage being delayed as his sister was yet to find a suitable partner.

Teynampet police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
