An unidentified man rode away with a scooterette from a showroom in Ambattur on Tuesday evening, after going there on the pretext of enquiring about a few vehicles. Ambattur police have registered a case and are investigating.
Police said the incident took place around 5.30 p.m. at a showroom on Ambattur-Red Hills Road near Rakki Theatre. The man arrived at the showroom, and looked at a few models. When a salesperson approached him, he enquired about a few of the vehicles and even gave the salesperson a phone number and a name.
“After stating that he would come back to buy a two-wheeler, he stepped out of the showroom and spotted a Scooty, used by customers for test rides. The Scooty was parked with the keys in its ignition.
He quickly got on it and rode away before being spotted by anyone in the showroom,” said an investigating officer.
Representative from the showroom lodged a complaint with the Ambattur police and a probe is under way. to track down the youth, sources added.
