Man falls to death

A 34-year-old man died after a heap of tiles on which he climbed crashed in West Mambalam on Sunday.

M.Manikandan, who was reported to be mentally ill, ran out of his home on Nagathamman Koil Street. He then climbed on the tiles of a house on the same street, investigating police officers from Kumaran Nagar station said. The tiles, unable to bear his weight, came crashing down. Manikandan fell on the ground, 20-feet-below and suffered severe head injuries.

He was rushed to Government Royapettah Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

He was living with his mother, police said, adding that his body was handed over to her after a post-mortem on Sunday morning.
