Miscreants allegedly diverted the attention of a businessman and stole ₹5 lakh from him in Choolaimedu on Wednesday.

Police said Mahesh, a resident of Anna Nagar and a steel dealer, went to a shop on Nelson Manickam Road to make payment for a business deal. He had ₹5 lakh cash with him. But he had to return without making the payment as there was no one in the office. When he was entering the car, unknown persons told him that he had dropped a ₹10 note. “When Mahesh turned around, his bag with cash was missing,” said a police officer.
