Man commits suicide by jumping into Cooum

A man, believed to be in his early 30's, drowned after he allegedly jumped into the Cooum River near Pallavan Salai on Monday morning.

Police said the man whose identity is yet to be established took the leap from a bridge around 11.30 a.m. Bystanders alerted the police who in turn called in personnel from the Fire department. Divers pulled out the man from the river but he died by then.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are in the process of identifying the deceased, police added.
