Man assaults wife with LPG cylinder, held

Following an argument, a 40-year-old man attacked his wife with an empty LPG cylinder at their residence in Kovur near Mangadu early on Wednesday. The woman is in critical condition in hospital. Mangadu police identified the victim as Lakshmi (35), who lives with her husband Kuppan, a welder, in Adivasi Nagar in Kovur. The couple, who married a few years ago, do not have children. following their married few years ago. The couple don’t have children.

Police said Kuppan was an alcoholic and frequently quarrelled with his wife. Around 12.30 a.m. the couple got into an argument, which led to Kuppan lifting the cylinder and hitting Lakshmi on the head with it. She was badly injured and neighbours rushed her to hospital.

Kuppan has been arrested.
