Man arrested for murder of relative

The Tiruvallur Police arrested a 38-year-old man for the murder of a senior citizen. Ramesh Babu is suspected to have killed his relative Saroja (73), a resident of Thotta Street, Arani, on Monday and stolen seven-and-half sovereigns of jewellery.

A police official said that Babu was unemployed and in debt.

He made plans to kill Saroja for gain.

After murdering Saroja, the accused allegedly concealed the gold ornaments in a pit.

During investigations, the police were able to identify the accused who lives on the same street, just five houses away .

The police said Babu had confessed to the crime and has been remanded to custody.
