The Kilpauk All Women's Police arrested a 33-year-old man from Karnataka on Saturday.

The man, Jay Richard Geils, had allegedly cheated a young woman in the city to the tune of Rs. 18 lakh after promising to marry her. The police said the man had married twice before, and had cheated the other two women as well.

The woman, from Purasawalkam, met the man in Chennai last year through a friend. They entered into a relationship and he had taken money from her often, promising to marry her soon.

He later went absconding. The woman tracked him to Bangalore and found out that he had earlier been arrested there on a similar charge.
