Man arrested for attacking women with sewing needle in Ayanavaram

A 24-year-old man was apprehended after he reportedly attacked two women pedestrians, unknown to him, with a sewing needle in Ayanavaram on Monday. The police suspect he could be suffering from mental illness.

The Secretariat Colony police identified the arrested as Silambarasan, a construction worker from Nammalwarpet. He was seated on his motorcycle when the two victims walked past him. The suspect suddenly attacked them with a sewing needle, used to bind sacks, which he was carrying. Bystanders rushed in and rescued the two women who suffered minor puncture wounds. Silambarasan was handed over to the Secretariat Colony police who questioned him and booked a case. He was arrested immediately. The condition of the women is stable, sources said.
