Magisterial probe begins

On Thursday a magisterial inquiry began into the alleged custodial death of Karthik (23) in Kannagi Nagar Police Station.

SI, constable suspended

City Police Commissioner S.George issued orders placing Packiaraj, SI and Vijay Kumar, head constable under suspension. Departmental proceedings were initiated against them.

On Thursday morning, the District Munsif-cum-judicial magistrate, Uthiramerur, Satchidandham began the inquiry a day after police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 176 (1-A) (a person dies while in the custody of police) and referred it to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Chengalpet for magistrate inquiry.

The magistrate visited the Government Royappetah Hospital here where the body of the deceased was kept, and conducted the inquest. He interacted with the family members of the deceased.

The body was handed over to the father of deceased.

A heavy posse of police personnel has been deployed around Kannagi Nagar Police Station.
