The following programmes are being organised on Friday (August 21) as part of the ‘Madras Week’ celebration.

An intra-school competition in essay writing, oratorical and chart preparation will be Chennai Corporation Girls School, Tondiarpet, at 10 a.m.

A photo exhibition on ‘Temples of Chennai’ will be held at Alliance Francaise, Nungambakkam, at 10 a.m.

S.Suresh will talk on ‘Names of places in Chennai’ at Asan Memorial School at 11 a.m.

‘Madras Quiz, 2009’ in Tamil will be organised for city schools at P.S.Higher Secondary School, Mylapore at 2 p.m.

‘Treasure in the Trees’- a series of indigenous games such as ‘Kai Bambaram’ and ‘Karandi Aatam’ using fruits and leaves of Chennai will be organised by Kreeda for children at Sri Parvathi Gallery, Eldams Road, Alwarpet at 3 p.m.

A workshop on ‘Traditional games played in Old Madras’ will be conducted by Vandana Gobind at Vanilla Children Place, 8/57, Luz Avenue, Mylapore at 4 p.m.

‘Photographs of Chennai’, an exhibition will be hosted by the Madras Photographic Society at Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Anna Nagar at 4 p.m. D.Krishnan will talk on ‘Pictures of Madras Presidency’ at the same venue at 4 p.m.

‘The Soap Box’, presentations of Chennai-centric anecdotes in English, will be conducted at Central Lecture Theatre, IIT Madras, at 5.30 p.m.

G.Arivoli, director of Public Libraries, will talk on ‘Public Library System in Chennai: Past, Present and the Future’ at Connemara library at 6 p.m.

Vedant Bharadwaj will present a music concert featuring songs from the city at Hotel Taj Coromandel at 6.30 p.m.

Film historian Randor Guy will talk on ‘Secrets and Scandals and history of the Tamil film world of yesteryear’ at The Madras Terrace House, Royapettah, at 7 p.m.
