Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery conducted a quiz contest recently to mark the Madras Day celebrations, where the Interact Club students from St. Antony’s Higher Secondary School and Government Higher Secondary School, Velachery, participated in the event.

A total of 60 students from Class IX to XII marked their presence for the quiz lead by their Interact Club coordinators Sasikala and Sakayarani.

R. Subramaniyam, Rotary Club International Director (New Generations) Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery,was the quiz master and was supported by Rotarian A.S. Prabagar. The students were given 20 questions touching key topics in history, culture, business, commerce and sports followed by an audio video presentation.

For individual talent award, three students were selected out of 20 final participants and for group talent both the school shared the award. The awards and certificates will be presented to the students later this year.

President of Rotary Club of Chennai, V. Sriram, recapped the history and culture of Chennai and asked the students to feel proud of being a resident of this historic city.

Such programmes help the students to update their general knowledge and keep in touch with current events happening in the community they live, he said and asked them to support the actions of the Government to keep the city neat and clean for a sustainable development.

Charter President, Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery, K.R. Mukundan, handed over a cheque for Rs. 15,200 to headmistress, St. Antony’s School, Sister Regi, towards the school fees for five students from underprivileged society.

Sister Regi thanked the Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery for their continued support to education.
